Hiya everyone! This is the closest match I could find to my query, Marina, so maybe we need a Fabric section on the forum to discuss fabrics? Anywho, just a suggestion. I recently got some AMAZING fabrics (velvets, sequins, Thai silks etc) and I don't know how to properly store them. I have my cottons on 'mini bolts' on a book shelf out of the sun, but I don't think this will do in this case. Do you fold or roll? I've heard some horror stories about permanent fold marks etc! EEPS! Anywho, want to preserve my lovlies for as long as possible, so any hints/tips/how you do it would be welcome Cheers! Kat PS I have so much to sew now I just know I'll live till 110! )))))))))))))))

I just added the Fabric section (in Tools, Notions, Fabrics section), but this is a good match too. I roll all those challenging fabrics, usually with tissue paper inbetween. I usually make sure that there is some tissue paper excess at the end, so I can wrap the roll in this remaining tissue. Then I lay the rolls horizontally on top of my IKEA Expedit shelves (stuffed with my fabric stash). Expedit is low enough for me to sigh at those roll ends every time I enter my workroom. They look like dozens of big sparkling eyes, haunting me... I think I got a problem Back to fabrics, I haven't had a problems when I store them this way. As for the rolls, I make the core myself, rolling craft paper three - four times, it is sturdy enough to hold couple of yards of fabric. I also roll any fabric with nap, especially cashmere, or mohair. Also lace...

Brilliant, Marina, thanks! I have a couple Expedits actually - they're the foundations for my cutting table - so I like your idea a lot! If you have a problem...I have it too...and I suspect many on here as well I esp like that you can see your rolls. The ideal situation would be to see them and for them to be safe - not always possible, I know. But wrapping the rolls in tissue would be a fab idea. thanks.
